Sherrills Ford is an unincorporated community located in eastern North Carolina. The community is positioned just north of Lake Norman between Interstate 77 and North Carolina Highway 16. The community occupies almost 9 square miles of land and is home to about 900 residents. Sherrills Ford touches the eastern, northern, and western borders of Lake Norman of Catawba, a census-designated place. The community is the closest neighboring community to Sherrills Ford.

Sherrills Ford was given its name because it is the site where Adam Sherrill created a ford in the Catawba River. The Sherrills family were of English ancestry and came to North Carolina from Maryland. Most likely, the family trekked through Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia. Today, many Sherrill descendants reside in the community.

Although Sherrills Ford is a small community, there are many amenities and commodities located within its borders. Sherrills Ford is home to a United States Postal Service office, the Sherrills Ford Elementary School, Sherrills Ford Presbyterian Church, and Sherrills Ford Self-Storage.
